Small and friendly are two words that spring to mind when you visit Cheviot and Gore Bay.
Cheviot is home to around 1,500 people and services a large rural area. Its main road is State Highway One so there's no missing this pretty place.
You'll be surprised at what is on offer... an eclectic mix of shops – tearooms, a small supermarket, hardware store and galleries offering homewares, designer clothing, local art and craft.
Just south of Cheviot is Domett, a small town named after Alfred Domett, who was a former Premier of New Zealand who emigrated from England to Nelson in 1842.
Holiday homes dot the surrounding hills at Gore Bay, almost standing guard over the beach. It’s a surfer’s paradise, popular for its fishing and the reef and rock pools are well worth exploring too.
Here is a little taste of what's on offer in Cheviot and Gore Bay.
