Gain insight into the traditions, meanings, and stories that Matariki carries — a celebration of reflection, renewal, and connection.
The Matariki cluster can be seen just before the sun rises in mid June/early July. The Manuka Skies team will guide you through how and when to find the cluster.
Meet Brent and Kara, the knowledge and logistics masterminds behind Manuka Skies. With years of experience in hospitality and tourism, and a passion for all things Astronomy the Manuka Skies team offer a fun, highly interactive and fascinating tour of our night sky. With roots in Te ao Maori, Kara will take you on a journey of the story of Matariki.
Matariki is one of our closest star clusters; in the constellation of Taurus. It appears bluish white in the early morning sky in June.
The hazy light connecting the stars is the nebula Merope passing through. Other names: Pleiades, The Seven Sisters, Subaru, Mao, Krittika.
