Amberley Area Cycle Trail (Hurunui Trails)

The Amberley Area Cycle Trail (AACT) Stage 1 is open! This means you can now cycle, walk or run safely between Amberley and Leithfield without needing to use State Highway 1.

Address
Amberley

PLEASE NOTE: due to heavy rain in April 2017, the approach to the Kowai River crossing has been washed out. There is a drop and you will need to dismount and proceed with caution. If there is no water in the river then it is still passable.

The link starts near the Old Leithfield Hotel heading towards the northern end of the Kowai Trail and then involves a crossing of the Kowai riverbed, normally dry .... unless wet!. The route then passes through a scenic farm, popping you out at the south end of Stockdills Rd. Continue on this unsealed road, then past the New Recycling /Transfer Station, ending your journey at Goldpine on the corner of State Highway 1 and Grays Rd.

This great project has been initiated and undertaken 100% by the community. We'd like to thank all the local businesses who donated equipment use, materials and funds for signage. We'd also like to thank John Richards for generously allowing us access through his farm to Stockdills Road, thanks John!

The Amberley Area Cycle Trail Project is run under the umbrella of the Hurunui Trails Trust. To help fund more cycle trail networks in our community you can become a Hurunui Trails Member, visit http://www.hurunuitrails.org.nz

So, take your kids, friends or the dog and check out this new local amenity, there's a map on the back of this notice with distances and there are Orientation Panels at major points along the trail.
