New World Supermarkets to Showcase North Canterbury Food & Beverage Products
The first of a series of showcase events promoting North Canterbury food and beverage products has kicked off at Rangiora New World today.
The MADE NORTH CANTERBURY showcase will run in store for a week from Monday, April 12th. Customers will be treated to tastings and specials from MADE NORTH CANTERBURY members while MADE branding will feature prominently in store, and customers will be guided to locally made products with a themed aisle map.
A second event is earmarked for Durham Street New World in Christchurch later in the year, with others to follow.
Alissa Wilson of MADE NORTH CANTERBURY says the events will give North Canterbury made products a huge profile and will help inform consumers.
“Showcasing the diversity and quality of locally made food and beverage products to New World consumers will not only help people to buy local but will introduce them to some delicious new products that they can add to their weekly shopping list. The struggles of last year really brought home the importance of supporting our local producers. The showcase events will allow consumers to try, buy and find our amazing North Canterbury products in store so they can continue to shop local into the future.”
Catherine Keith is Managing Director of Mount Brown Estates and is participating in the showcase event as a MADE NORTH CANTERBURY member. She says the showcase is a chance for customers to see the breadth of locally-made produce and to reiterate the importance of shopping local.
“Many consumers will know about local wine, but what about pork, honey, nuts? There is lots of great food being produced on our doorstep and New World supermarkets are making it easy for people to find through this initiative,” she said. “Shopping from local producers is so important. Not only does it enable employment and profit to stay within our region, but the produce hasn’t travelled too far either so you are shrinking your carbon footprint each time you purchase a local product. And of course, it’s a lovely chance to take pride in North Canterbury and celebrate what is on our doorstep.”
Launched earlier this year, MADE NORTH CANTERBURY is an Enterprise North Canterbury initiative and the first local provenance brand aimed at promoting, connecting and collaborating North Canterbury food and beverage producers.
