Soldiers' Block Grand Opening, Queen Mary Hospital

Built in 1916 on the Queen Mary Hospital grounds, Soldiers’ Block was designed to bring healing to veterans suffering from mental trauma. After serving as a symbol of care and recovery for generations until its closure 20 years ago, it now begins a new chapter as a community centre for all of Hanmer Springs.

On Friday 25th April, start with the Dawn Service at 6am at Amuri Avenue Reserve, enjoy breakfast at one of our local cafés, visit the Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa, then join the historic opening of Soldiers' Block at 2pm.

Formal speeches and ribbon cutting commences at 2pm, followed by guided tours (led by local theatre group the Amuri Players in period costume) and multimedia displays explaining the site's history and renovations.
