The festival is back for 2024 and bigger than ever! We can't wait to see you, 6th - 16th July. Bring your whole whānau to enjoy icy plunge pools, night light tree top climbing, dazzling light displays, kids quizzes, glowing mini golf and more… that's just the tip of the iceberg! Pop Up Light Display
Step into a world of wonder at our Pop Up Light Display! Marvel at the mesmerizing blow-up lights that transform the night into a vibrant, glowing spectacle. Stroll through an enchanting path illuminated by inflatable and interactive light installations. Perfect for families and friends, this interactive light display promises to captivate all ages. This is a FREE light display every evening from the 6th - 16th July.

On the 10th of July, Manuka Skies will be hosting a FREE star gazing session at the Hanmer Springs Animal Park. This is an amazing opportunity to see the beauty skies of Hanmer Springs have to offer.

Family Picnic Quad/Buggy Rides
Amuri Jet Adventures are putting on a special treat for us all, for the whole Alpine Winter Festival 6th - 16th July! For 10 days only, the team at Amuri Jet Adventures are putting on a Family Picnic Buggy/Quad combo, taking you to areas of their farm and mountains which aren't usually open for touring. You bring your family and your picnic and the amazing team will take you on a fantastic journey, via either Quad Bike or Buggy, to some of the most picturesque lookouts over Hanmer where you and the whanau can enjoy your packed lunch. 10am - 2pm Daily

Outdoor Puzzle Hunt
An Outdoor Puzzle Hunt, but in the dark! Bring your torches and enjoy the Hanmer Springs Village as it lights up from the local light shows put on by the businesses! The Outdoor Puzzle Hunt is essentially an Outdoor Escape Room experience in the form of a Scavenger Hunt. Each team of 4-6 students will receive an iPad, an action pack and 3 missions to choose from!! Come early and have the opportunity to purchase glow sticks for the real glowing adventure!

Fire Truck Display
Fire Truck Display 13th July 10am - 12pm
Thank you to the Hanmer Springs Volunteer Fire Brigade who are going to put on a display at the Fire Station on Saturday the 13th July. We know there will be some pretty excited little ones! We also want to take this time to thank those volunteer fire fighters for the continued support and hard work you provide to our community. This is a FREE display.

The Hanmer Springs Alpine Winter Festival is bringing back some competition within the village. You guessed it! The Lights competition is back! Our amazing local businesses are getting ready to make the village glow, lighting up the streets! Ski Field Open Day

The Amuri Ski Club cannot wait to have you join them on Saturday 13th July for a fun-filled day of skiing, tobogganing, snow castle building and to enjoy their sausage sizzle which will be going for the Open Day only! If we could please have everyone doing a little snow dance to the skies, then hopefully the ski field will have some awesome POW for us all to enjoy. If there’s enough snow to open the lifts, we’ll be doing deals on passes for the day.

The Big Swim Fundraiser
Dive into The Big Swim for Coast Guard!
Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa are opening 2 lanes daily from 10am to 11am during the Alpine Winter Festival, inviting you to swim for charity. For every lap you complete, they will donate 20 cents to support The Big Swim for Coast Guard.
They are also a partner pool so if you raise $100 you will be able to enter the pools for free during the month of July.
Don't miss this opportunity to make a splash and contribute to a worthy cause. T's & C's apply, so come along, bring your friends, and let's swim together to make a difference!

Night Time Amaze-N-Maze
A special treat for the Alpine Winter Festival. A Maze N Golf Hanmer Springs is going above and beyond their normal hours and bringing their maze experience to life, actually… to NIGHTLIFE! Staying open till 8.00pm in the evening, rug up and get your torches ready! 6th - 16th July!
Come and solve the mystery of the Lost Temple and be in for lots of surprises along the way and do it all in the dark! The maze will be slightly more spooky than usual, with some darker corners whilst you try to solve the Lost Temple mysteries. Bring a torch if you don’t love the dark. That is A-MAZE-N!

Pie Eating Competition
Did I hear Pie Eating Competition...?
You would be silly not to come down to PJ's Pies Hanmer Springs for this one!
A kiwi classic, we love a competition and we love a pie. There will be up to 7 rounds of pie eating contests, where we are after the fastest individual to finish a pie. The winner of each round will go to the final round where we will discover the ultimate pie eater! For the winner we have a Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa voucher up for grabs!
This competition is free to enter and is limited to 20 people. Sign up on the day, on a first in first served basis. A special treat for those not competing is the PJ's Pies Happy Hour from 2pm-3pm (after the competition has concluded), where all pies will be half price!

Night Light Tree Top Climbing
This activity involves climbing trees at our base at the Hanmer Springs Forest Camp, in the dark whilst the trees are illuminated! This activity is for the extra brave and those who are ready to take the challenge to the next level.
5.30pm - 7pm 7tth, 9th, 11th, 13th & 15th July.

Have you ever wanted to see inside a helicopter and find out how they work? Well, here’s your chance at the Amuri Helicopters Open Day as part of the Alpine Winter Festival. There’ll be helis to have a look around, pilots to have a chat with and all sorts of gear to understand more about. You and the kids will love this one of kind experience. It’s free to come along to so pop in and say hello.
