The Hurunui Destination Management Plan

Creating a future that benefits everyone in the Hurunui

Visit Hurunui has launched what is possibly the most important piece of mahi we’ve ever undertaken and we need your help.

We are working on a Destination Management Plan (DMP) for the region. The DMP is about creating a future for tourism, which will benefit everyone.

Pre-COVID visitor numbers were growing at record rates – and while that was good for the economy, we know there were parts of New Zealand that were feeling some challenges around visitor numbers.

We Need Your Feedback!

Over the last few months, we've been catching up with residents ratepayers and business owners throughout the district, we wanted to capture your visions for the future of the Hurunui. We are now calling on you to help us finalise the destination management plan.

Following public sessions and a round of online submissions, as well as discussions with a range of stakeholders, Visit Hurunui has created the first draft of its destination management plan.

Common themes to have emerged from the public so far include:

• The community of Hurunui and the environment come first
• We need to make the most of our natural assets, but ensure that they are there for future generations to enjoy
• The Hurunui has a historical connection to supporting people’s spiritual, physical and mental wellbeing

Now we’re inviting you to join us for a presentation on the draft plan. We’d love to gather your feedback and hear your views on whether we’re on the
right track.

Public sessions will be held on the following dates:

We would love to know in advance how many people will be attending these sessions, if you would like to RSVP, please email marketing@visithurunui.co.nz
