How to combine wine, food and exercise!

Lucky for us, we don’t have to rely on an annual event to get our fix of this winning recipe…

Grab your bike, or strap on your comfiest walking shoes and enjoy the Waipara Valley Vineyard Trail this winter.

The trail is open year round to cyclists, walkers and joggers. Well-marked and regularly maintained, it’s a comfortable trail for all ages.

Start at the Glenmark Reserve and make your way toward Ataahua Wines and Sherwood.

Those who have tried and tested the trail will tell you the views are like no other. And the variety of the trail keeps things interesting! Forget about following the same gravel track for endless kilometres.

There are gentle hills to peddle up, scenic views of the mountains, and woolly locals to say ‘g’day’ to.

And be sure to look out for a special picnic spot. Hint – it’s right by a little lake.

Along the trail, you’ll also find Greystone, Muddy Water, Dancing Water and Mountford Estate. The lovely people overseeing these North Canterbury establishments are passionate about producing world class wines. If you would like to learn more about production or want a peak at the cellar, this is your chance. Some wine tastings are by appointment only, so be sure to check ahead of time.

The best bit about this trail is you can ‘tailor-your-own-journey’, so if you want to stay a while, Dunnolly and Glenmark Vicarage offer accommodation options along the way.

Keen to veer off track? Connecting trails get you to the ever-popular Waipara Springs and Black Estate. These iconic North Canterbury wineries will help you refuel along the way too.

This really is a trail like no other.
